Mutual Funds
Mutual funds are assets created with the view of operating a portfolio of capital market instruments and precious metals traded in domestic and international markets with investors’ funds on the principle of dispersing the risk and fiduciary ownership.

At least 25% of the portfolio, based on the monthly weighted average of the portfolio value, maintained by Type A mutual funds always consists of equities of companies established in Turkey, including any privatized Public Enterprises; all the others are classified as Type B. The type of the fund is indicated in the fund name.

Benefits of Mutual Funds
The investors’ savings are managed by competent and reliable managers.
The risk is dispersed thanks to the diversity of the investment instruments contained in the fund portfolios.
It enables investment in high-return securities which are normally unavailable to smaller investments.
Money Market Funds can be liquidated instantly and other types of funds within 1 to 4 days at the amounts needed.
The high volumes of the mutual funds provide time and cost saving during trading.

Important Points When Investing in Mutual Funds
Mutual funds carry varying degrees of risk depending on the type and portfolio weight of the securities contained in them.
The value of the fund may rise or fall in line with the market developments and price movements. It should be remembered that tpotentially higher returns involve higher risks. When choosing a fund the investor should decide whether the management strategy and the degree of risk carried by the risk in which he/she considers investing are compatible with his/her preference and the degree of risk he/she wills to take.
The investors should be aware of the basic details, management strategies and trading principles of the funds in which they are considering to invest.
Historical performance of the mutual fund should be examined and compared with alternative instruments. It should be remembered however that the performance of a particular fund in the past is no guarantee that a similar return may be enjoyed in the future.
Daily fluctuations in the price should not be a factor in the investor’s choice of a fund. Other than money market funds, all mutual funds should be considered vehicles of medium- or long-term investment.
